History of El Popular

It all began in Mexico.

Vicente F. Garza, the founder of El Popular brand Mexican food products, migrated from Monterrey, Mexico to the United States in 1925. On his journey to the Chicago area, he brought with him his family recipes along with a unique entrepreneurial spirit. Some of the recipes that Vicente brought have produced products that have made us famous today, products such as: chorizo, molé sauce, chocolate and queso.

With the Garza family having owned El Popular for three generations, this company has become the oldest chorizo manufacturer in the United States with over 87 years of business. Our commitment, to provide the community with products that have high standards of quality, has made El Popular a successful leader in the Mexican food industry.
